SHOCKER IN KENYA: Court Rules Nnamdi Kanu’s Abduction Illegal, Slams ₦120M Compensation — A Landmark Blow to Nigeria’s Government!
In a bombshell ruling shaking diplomatic corridors across Africa, a High Court in Nairobi, Kenya, has declared the 2021 abduction and forced transfer of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to Nigeria as unlawful, unconstitutional, and a gross violation of human rights.
Justice E.C. Mwita, delivering the historic judgment on June 24, 2025, didn’t hold back. He ruled that Kanu’s rights were brutally trampled upon by both Kenyan and Nigerian authorities. The court found that Kanu was legally in Kenya but was abducted, tortured, denied food and medication, and later whisked away to Nigeria without any legal process or extradition hearing.
As justice rang through the halls of Nairobi, the court awarded Kanu 10 million Kenyan shillings (about ₦120 million) in damages against the Government of Kenya.
“Kanu was humiliated, chained, tortured and forcibly removed from Kenyan soil — all in violation of Kenyan and international law,” Justice Mwita declared.
IPOB REACTS: “This Is a Legal Earthquake!”
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has celebrated the ruling as a “judicial earthquake”, claiming total vindication for its leader and movement.
In a fiery statement issued by IPOB spokesperson Emma Powerful, the group hailed the ruling as a moral and legal tsunami against the Nigerian and Kenyan governments.
“This was not extradition. It was state-sponsored terrorism. A criminal act of international rendition carried out by rogue officials under Buhari and Kenyatta,” IPOB stated.
IPOB also praised legal icon Professor PLO Lumumba, who led the Kenyan legal battle, calling his effort a masterclass in fearless advocacy.
The group didn’t spare words for Nigerian leadership, accusing former Presidents Buhari and Kenyatta, ex-AGF Malami, and even current leaders like Tinubu and Shettima of criminal complicity and international lobbying to cover up the illegal operation.
“This is just the beginning. Every hand involved in this crime against humanity will face justice — no matter where they are,” IPOB vowed.
This ruling marks a turning point in Nnamdi Kanu’s long-running legal and political saga. It exposes the underbelly of international law violations and opens the door for further legal actions at global human rights platforms.
For Kanu, it’s more than compensation — it’s vindication. For Nigeria and Kenya, it’s a diplomatic stain that won’t wash off easily.
