The leaders of the United Kingdom, France and Germany issued a joint statement with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy supporting direct dialogue between Ukraine and Russia.
Moscow's response was dismissive. A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the conditions put forward in the mediation statement were completely unacceptable, underscoring how far apart the sides remain.
Diplomacy stalls
Diplomatic efforts toward a comprehensive settlement have stalled, with analysts seeing little chance of a near-term ceasefire despite repeated outreach.
Earlier in the year, only brief humanitarian truces took hold, including short pauses around Orthodox Easter and Russia's Victory Day commemorations.
